He’s One.

He’s One.

How in the world is my little buddy officially ONE?! This year flew by for me. I’m not sure if it’s just getting older or the pure insanity that is having two kids under two, but wow it went fast. Our life changed in an instant the day Calvin was born and it brings me to tears even talking about it (yes, I’m that mom now).

The tears were not sad and this is not a tragic story, but one of the pure unconditional love.

Growing up I was never bound and determined to have a ton of kids. Sure, I knew I always wanted to be a mom but I was driven to have a career and make a difference in this world. Little did I know that the difference I’m most proud of making is raising these two babes. Becoming a mom changed me. It changed me first with Madeline and it changed me even more with Calvin.

When Madeline was born it was the single greatest moment in my life. I fell head first into the joy and amazement that motherhood brought and honestly, loved our little life as a family of three. When I got pregnant again, I was a little uneasy. Did I want things to change? Were we being selfish by bringing someone else into the world to compete for our attention with Madeline? What if she didn’t like him? As my pregnancy progressed, the feelings of uncertainty moved to those of anxiety and then excitement as the day came closer.

However, as excited as I was there was still panic, nerves and doubt. All of these were true until the moment Calvin arrived and I held him in my arms. Wow I can’t even describe it! Holding him there, it never felt more right. It was like I’d known him for years and he was finally here in the flesh. He was perfect. And he was ours.

He fit into our family like a missing puzzle piece. I can hardly remember life without him! Calvin is joy and delight and wild. He is sensitive, loving and happy. The first year with him has been absolutely incredible and I can’t wait to see what our second year with him has in store. Bring it on!

Calvin’s Stats:

Weight: 21.5 lbs (50%)

Length: 2′ 7.6″ (97%)

Fun fact – the doctor predicted he will be 6’3″ when he’s an adult!

Hair: Curly and brown (and I refuse to cut it – don’t hate on the ponytail!)

Milestones: Standing and cautiously wanting to walk. Still crawls since it’s the fastest method to get from place to place. No more bottles (wooo!) and drinking out of a sippy cup. Moves and pushes furniture around.

Likes: Baths, Cuddling, His three nuks, FOOD (all the food), playing peekaboo in the teepee with Madeline, Just Madeline in general, funny noises and tearing things out of cupboards and boxes.

Dislikes: Cold water, changing his diaper, changing clothes, wiping off his face and when mom/dad leave (hello attachment phase).

Sleep schedule: Goes to bed around 7:00pm and wakes up around 7:00am. Thank you lord for having TWO good sleepers!

He’s our cal pal and his smile LIGHTS up the room. Thanks for giving me this year sweet boy.
